A taxi driver who was found suffering from a “critical injury” early Saturday morning has died as police continue to investigation the incident.
Officers were called to the area of Eastchester Avenue near Lorne Street for an ambulatory call around 4:43 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found a lone patient who had sustained a critical injury and was transported to an out-of-region hospital for care.
The patient, a 58-year-old man, was determined to be the driver of a gray Toyota Corolla taxi parked nearby that police say had an “available” status and no paying passenger at the time.
Police say a community member was driving in the area when they passed the stopped taxi and discovered the driver lying unconscious on the roadway.

Residents and businesses in the area are asked to review all security footage between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Saturday for any suspicious activity.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009124.
