Native protesters blocked two Ontario highways on Saturday along with a portion of downtown Hamilton.

The protests were in relation to missing and murdered aboriginal women.

There are more than 1,200 missing and murdered aboriginal women in Canada.

Police had parts of Highway 6 at Highway 4 blocked off in anticipation of a large crowd of protesters.

Only a handful showed up but they were dedicated to the issue.

According to a 1996 report by Stats Canada, indigenous women are five times more likely to die as a result of acts of violence.

Groups, like the ones who attended the protests, have been calling on the prime minister to hold an inquiry into the missing and murdered aboriginal women, so far he’s refused to do that.

In Hamilton the Six Nations flag was raised on Main Street.

A fire burned while a man wrapped in the Mohawk warrior flag fanned the flames.

According to the protesters, five women from Six Nations have been murdered and one from New Credit, a neighbouring community.

Both of Saturday’s protests were organized by men in the community who say enough is enough and are joining the women in a call to action.
