Yankees doubting they can catch up to Blue Jays

First Published:

In the words of Yankees’ great Yogi Berra, ‘it ain’t over til it’s over.’

But after the Hall of Famer’s passing was recognized last night at Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays shut out New York 4-0 to take a three and half game lead atop the American League East, with 10 games to go.

Russell Martin hit a three-run homer and Marcus Stroman threw seven scoreless innings.

ESPN points out that even if the  Yankees go 9-2 the rest of the way… they’d still only tie a 5-5 Jays team.

Even Yankees skipper Joe Girardi admits it’s going to be tough to catch up to the AL East leaders, saying New York had really hoped to take two of three in this last series.  They’re now making preparations for the possibility of playing a wild card game.

Toronto took the season series 13-6.
