Christmas is just 5 weeks away so if you’re looking for something to put you in the spirit there’s a house on the Hamilton Mountain you may want to visit. Philip Salvi lives here at 120 Fusilier Drive and he’s spent several months decorating his home with as many as 28 thousand lights.
Every year the Salvi’s have a theme for their light display. This year it’s a reflection of faith. They also welcome people stopping by to drop off childrens clothing and winter wear in the donation box on their driveway.
It’s like the Griswolds are in town. Except this family’s name is Salvi. Philip Salvi is spreading some Christmas cheer with his 28 thousand Christmas lights, music, and handcrafted decorations.
Neighbour Alison Kovacs says, “he does it not only for himself but for the entire neighbourhood for, his grandkids.”
“I’m really happy for him that he gets to do something he really likes.” says Philip’s grandchild Claudia.
Philip Salvi says, “Everybody comes and knocks on the door (asking) when are you going to turn them on? They’re beautiful.”
Philip Salvi had a tumor in his neck and had to undergo a serious operation three years ago.
“I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t talk, so what I did I got in the garage and I started making more and more of this Christmas stuff” says, Philip.
Philips wife Laura says, “It helped him get through a particularly bad time and now he does it for pleasure.”
The Salvi’s aren’t sure how much it’s all worth.
“No, I’m sorry, I don’t know but if I put all the work in? Whoa!” says Philip.
But to the neighbourhood, his work is priceless.
