Woman who was set on fire on Toronto bus last month dies of injuries

First Published:

Toronto police say a woman who was set on fire on a public transit bus on June 17 has died of her injuries.

Const. Alex Li, a police spokesman, said she died Tuesday and that homicide officers have been notified.

Last month, officers said a 33-year-old man had been arrested after allegedly setting a woman on fire on a city bus in what was being called a suspected hate crime.

Police alleged a man poured a liquid substance on a woman shortly after noon that day and then lit the liquid on fire.

Tenzin Norbu of Toronto was charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, common nuisance endangering the lives, safety or health of the public and mischief over $5,000 interfering with property.

Li said those charges were to be upgraded as a result of her death.
