A 28-year-old woman has been arrested after a neighbour dispute escalated to violence in Welland.

Police say a man and woman who are neighbours at a multi-unit residential building in the area of Niagara St. and West Main St. had been involved in an ongoing disagreement involving a number of issues including noise complaints.

Investigators say the man was confronted by the woman who was holding a knife in the common area of the building around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say the woman allegedly stabbed the man in the face.

He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Officers arrested the woman at the scene and executed a search warrant where a knife was recovered.

Alysha Cyopeck, of Welland, is charged with assault with a weapon.

She is scheduled to appear in court via video on Wednesday.

Anyone with information that could help police with the investigation is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, ext. 1023300.
