Welland house fire

Fire fighters were called to a Welland home just hours into the New Year.

The deputy fire chief says the call came in around 1 am at a home on Northgate drive.

It started in the garage and spread to the attic of the home.

No one was home at the time of the fire, the family was out celebrating. Two cats were rescued from the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
