Video helps lead to arrests of Stoney Creek break-in suspects

First Published:

Hamilton police say two men have been arrested after CHCH News aired security video of a pair of suspects in a vehicle break-in spree last week.

The video showed two men breaking into an apartment building at 10 Village Green Blvd. on Aug 5.

The thieves spent roughly 40 minutes smashing windows and stealing personal items from vehicles in the underground parking garage.

The duo was captured on video leaving the parking lot by stepping on an air hose which opened the garage doors. The pair made off with a rolling shopping cart and a bag of stolen goods including a dashcam and a drone.

Police say the suspects were identified after surveillance video of the incident aired on the Evening News at 6 the day after the incident.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, police arrested one of the suspects after officers were called to an altercation at Center Mall.

Police say the second suspect is also in police custody.

A 40-year-old man and 24-year-old man, both of no fixed address, are facing multiple charges including 17 counts of mischief.

Police say the investigation into other car entry thefts in the area remains open and more charges may be laid.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Cst. Chelsea Knowles at 905-546-2921.
