Workers at a southwestern Ontario university may strike on Nov. 13, according to their union.
The University of Western Ontario Faculty Association (UWOFA) represents 1,600 faculty members, academic librarians and archivists at Western University.
It says the workers are concerned about certain proposals being rejected by the university, such as job security, health benefits and workload.
According to UWOFA, Western has acknowledged that workload is a significant issue but no changes have been made.
Faculty members at Western voted 91 per cent in favour of a strike if key issues are not addressed at the bargaining table.
UWOFA will be in a legal strike position as of November 13.

UWOFA released a report in September that showcases the budget surpluses Western has accumulated over the years. Meanwhile, student enrollment increased and departments have decreased, which leaves more work for faculty members.

The university believes that a strike can be avoided and is striving to reach an agreement that meets the requirements of Ontario’s Bill 124, Western said in a release on Nov. 8.
Negotiations between UWOFA and Western continue today.
