Unifor members at Ford have voted in favour of a new three-year collective agreement.
Ford and the union announced a tentative deal last week, which included $1.95 billion in investments to bring battery electric vehicle production to Oakville.
There is also a five per cent wage increase over the life of the agreement along with a productivity and quality bonus and re-instatement of afternoon and midnight shift premiums.
The deal was supported by 81 per cent of members.
“This is the single biggest investment in the Canadian auto industry in years providing long-term job security for Unifor members,” said Unifor National President Jerry Dias.
“The vote result not only demonstrates our members’ overwhelming support for their bargaining committees and their new collective agreement, but also shows Unifor members have a clear vision of a strong and prosperous Canadian auto sector.”
Unifor targeted Ford to start contract negotiations with the three Detroit automakers.
The union will begin talks with Fiat Chrysler later this week.
