Plans are set for a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor.
Federal transport minister Lisa Raitt and Michigan governor Rick Snyder have announced the creation of a U.S.-Canadian authority to oversee the construction, operation and maintenance of the new bridge. Raitt says the Windsor-Detroit bridge authority is a non-profit Crown corporation that will report to Ottawa.
The Canadian government has already agreed to finance the construction of the billion-dollar bridge. But the project still needs funding from U.S. Homeland Security. The total cost of the bridge will be about $4 billion. It’s expected to open in six years.
