Two people arrested following an altercation at a St. Catharines beach

Two people have been charged following an altercation involving bear mace and a knife at the Sunset Beach in St. Catharines.

Niagara Regional Police were called to the beach around 9 p.m Sunday.

They say five people were sprayed with bear mace and three people were assaulted during the fight.

A man also brandished a knife.

One person was transported to hospital for further treatment, all other victims were assessed by EMS at the scene.

22-year-old Mackenzie Benard of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with assault, administering noxious substance, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

23-year-old Sasha Smtih of St. Catharines was also arrested and charged with assault.
