Two dead in Norfolk County after two separate collisions

Members of OPP West Region responded to two separate collisions in Norfolk County on Thursday, one of which was fatal.

The first collision happened shortly after noon at the intersection of County Rd. 45 and County Rd. 23 just east of Frogmore.

Two vehicles collided and sent three individuals to hospital with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to serious.

County Rd. 23 was closed for several hours while officers completed their investigation. There is no word on the cause of the collision at this time.

The second, fatal collision happened at the intersection of Highway 24 and Concession 7 of Townsend, outside of Waterford at approximately 1:40 p.m.

Members of the OPP responded after receiving reports of an SUV and motor vehicle colliding.

A child and two adults from the SUV were transported to hospital and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger of the other vehicle was also taken to hospital but then airlifted to a Hamilton hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Police say the passenger later died in hospital.

The driver also suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to send out our sincere and utmost condolences to all family and friends affected by this tragedy,” Cst. Edward Sanchuk, OPP Norfolk County Detachment said.

Members of the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team continue to look into the circumstances surrounding this collision.

Highway 24 between Windham Road 6 and Windham Road 7 was closed for more than six hours while officers investigated.
