Trudeau pushes for global response to COVID-19 in developing countries

First Published:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to continue his push for a coordinated global response to cushion the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world’s poorest countries.

He is expected to promise that Canada will partner with developing countries to battle COVID-19 during a virtual summit of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

Some of those developing countries could be hit hard by the pandemic and will need debt relief to help them survive.

Data suggests the pandemic could force more than 34 million people into extreme poverty this year.
