Trudeau government plans to ban single use plastics by 2021

First Published:

The government would ban a list of plastic items including straws, cotton swabs, drink stirrers, plastic plates and cutlery.

Environment and climate change Canada says that Canadians throw away more than 34,000,000 plastic bags every day.

It is a global issue harming marine and wildlife. Whales have recently been found washed ashore with plastic in their stomachs.

The strategy is expected to be announced tomorrow by Trudeau and Environment Minister Catherine McKenna.
