Russia-U.S. peace plan sparks criticism due to lack of Ukraine, EU involvement

The United States has quietly been working on a peace plan behind closed doors with the Kremlin in a bid to put an end to the war in Ukraine, but word of the proposal has sparked harsh criticisms due to its lack of involvement from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the European Union.

The White House says the plan was put together by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, and his Russian counter part Kirill Dmitirev.

It includes some major concessions for Ukraine, granting Russia parts of its territory that’s not currently under Russian control but the White House maintains that land is likely to be lost anyway, should the war go on.

In the coming days, President Zelesnkyy is expected to speak with President Trump to discuss that 28-point plan, but as long as major concessions remain in place, it’s unlikely Ukraine will accept the plan.
