While meeting with business leaders in Qatar Thursday, President Trump said India had offered to eliminate tariffs on the United States as part of a potential trade deal.

If that comes to pass, it could show a significant breakthrough with an important American trading partner.

India is one of several countries trying to strike a deal with the President within his 90-day pause on tariff hikes but some reports in local Indian news agencies say nothing has been decided.

Trump has imposed a 10 per cent baseline tariff on all goods entering the United States with the threat of his reciprocal tariffs coming into effect in early July, India stands to face a 26 per cent reciprocal levy on all goods.
