Ontario transportation minister Steven Del Duca arrived at Hamilton’s newest GO station, West Harbour, today.
Del Duca, along with officials from Metrolinx and Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger took part in the opening of the new train station on James St N.
Del Duca announced the new station, which is still under construction, will officially open Thursday ahead of Friday’s Pan Am games opening ceremonies in Toronto. “Starting Thursday, permanent weekday commuter service to the new West Harbour GO station will begin with two trips to Union Station in the morning and two trips back in the evening.”
Eisenberger calls the station ‘transformative’ and says it will attract new investment. “Today we are more connected than ever to this regional economy that we call greater Toronto & Hamilton area. It is an important milestone that we make these kinds of investments.”
The first Pan Am soccer match will be played in Hamilton on Saturday. Additional construction at the new GO station will continue after the games to build a parking lot and pedestrian walkway.
