Toronto Pride returns after two-year hiatus

First Published:

The Toronto Pride parade has returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The streets were flooded with rainbow colours and tens of thousands marched in person to celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride.

The parade will be taking its traditional route, they will head west on Bloor Street and make a left on Yonge, heading towards downtown.

Participants say given the recent court ruling of Roe v Wade in the U.S. today was a must-attend. “I think right now, just what’s happening south of the border… it is a scary situation and as part of this community, we’re next in line…”

Ahead of the weekend, organizers said private security firms were expected to conduct checks at designated spots after reports of anti-LGBTQ+ incidents this month.
