Toronto police fatally shot man reportedly seen carrying rifle near school

Toronto police fatally shot a man who was seen carrying a rifle near an elementary school in Scarborough.

Officers were called to the area of East Ave. and Maberley Cres. around 1:35 p.m. on Thursday.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said there was an interaction between officers and the man, and two officers shot at the man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident prompted hundreds of children at nearby schools to go into lockdown.

The SIU said four investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
