Toronto educator with COVID-19 dies

First Published:

A child and youth worker at a Toronto Catholic school has died after contracting COVID-19.
that’s according to the union representing education workers.

The Toronto Catholic District school board says one class of students is now isolating in response to the death, and say the worker was last in the school on Thursday.

Cupe says she worked at St Francis De Sales school which is in the northwest of Toronto.
It’s not clear if she acquired the virus at work or out in the community.

The school has two confirmed staff cases of COVID-19 according to the provincial tracker.
Ontario’s official opposition is blaming the death on the Ford government, saying the province isn’t doing enough to keep staff and students safe.

Premier Ford referenced the death today while pointing the finger at people not taking the virus seriously for its continued spread.

Matt Ingram has the details.
