Top YouTube videos in Canada in 2018

YouTube is one of the most visited sites on the Internet and an average 100 billion hours of video content is watched every day.

The platform uploads about 400 hours of content every minute and reaches 91 countries worldwide.

Canada is one of those countries and some of the videos Canadians watched the most this year included surprising celebrity moments and viral trends.

These were the top ten trending YouTube videos in Canada in 2018.

1. “To Our Daughter” – The number one video in Canada chronicled Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy with rapper Travis Scott. It has over 76 million views.

2. “we broke up” – Popular YouTube vloggers Liza Koshy and David Dobrik announced their breakup on Dobrik’s channel. It’s been viewed over 46 million times.

3. “Do You Hear “Yanny” or “Laurel”? (SOLVED with SCIENCE)” – This video offered a scientific explanation from Canadian creators AsapSCIENCE about why the viral audio clip was being heard differently around the world. It has just under 50 million views.

4. “Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke” – Part of host James Corden’s late night show, McCartney sang along to his famous songs and revealed intimate details about The Beatles in the special version of the segment that took place in Liverpool. The sing-along has almost 36 million views.

5. “Walmart yodeling kid” – Mason Ramsey achieved international stardom, including visits to the Ellen show and a spot at Coachella, after a video of him singing Hank Williams’ “Lovesick Blues” in Walmart went viral. It has over 59 million views to date.

6. “Deadpool, meet Cable” – Canadian Ryan Reynolds unveiled the first trailer for the sequel to blockbuster hit Deadpool, which racked up over 23 million views.

7. “The Royal Wedding 2018: Prince Harry and Miss Meghan Markle” – A live stream from inside St. George’s Chapel as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were married got more than 33 million views.

8. “Falcon Heavy Test Flight” – The second live stream entry on the list, SpaceX presented the first test launch of its Falcon Heavy rocket and garnered almost 24 million views.

9. “FORTNITE DANCE CHALLENGE! – (In Real Life)” – The Eh Bee family from Vaughan, Ontario recreated moves from the popular video game Fortnite. The family’s dance battle has just under 80 million views.

10. “2018 US Open Highlights: Serena Williams’ dispute overshadows Naomi Osaka’s final win | ESPN” – Rounding out the top ten is the most talked about moment of the US Open, when Serena Williams argued with the referee over penalties called against her. It has over nine million views.

In addition to original content, YouTube is also home to music videos and released a list of which ones were most popular in Canada in 2018. The list includes three songs with Cardi B, as well as viral videos from Drake and Childish Gambino.
