The planning committee went against a staff recommendation and unanimously supported the plans for a 22-storey condominium project on the site of the Tivoli theatre. Proponents say the combination of arts and heritage will be good for the neighbourhood but it took a revised motion by councillor Jason Farr to convince other members to back the bid.  “No unit will be sold of the condominiums, until 100% of the Tivoli theatre is occupied and restored in use,” said Farr.

Pending site plan approval and remediation, construction could begin on the Tivoli condo as soon as next year.
