From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Success Stories from Women Investing in Real Estate is a new book that encourages women to invest in the real estate market.
The book chronicles real stories, stumbles, successes and is loaded with advice for other women considering a career in real estate investing.
Liza Rogers, the President of Women’s Real Estate Network (WREN) and co-author of the book, says all nine of the women featured in the book have unique and informative stories.
“They all realized the government wasn’t necessarily going to look after them and they didn’t want to count on a man being the plan,“ said Rogers. “As much as we love our guys, a lot of women aren’t getting married and they’re taking their financial pictures into their own hands.”
Rogers said although women are getting wealthy off of investing, they are also doing it to better their communities. She says most of the women she works with aren’t just looking at the money, but they are also looking at the benefits of building more rental homes and more seniors homes, for example.
“We do have a housing crisis in Canada right now,” she said. “I’m just so excited that women are getting involved and looking at it through a holistic community viewpoint.”
WREN is a club that helps educate and empower women to use real estate as an investment tool.
Rogers says the network has grown across Canada with notable projects like the construction of nursing homes and organic farms.
“Women just haven’t been playing in the game of investing,“ said Rogers. “Surprisingly, you can get started [in investing] with private equity with as little as $5,000.“
She said the most important thing is to just get started. She encourages getting connected with women who are investing to gain momentum and then choose a path to suit your lifestyle.
