Hamilton police have arrested three men and seized vehicles after receiving complaints of street racing in East Hamilton.

Over the weekend, undercover officers in unmarked cars conducted surveillance in the area of Queenston and Nash Rds.

On Saturday night, officers watched a burgundy Buick sedan exit a parking lot, revving its engine and creating a ‘burnout’ causing smoke to come from the tires. The car sped off eastbound on Queenston, where police pulled over the 24-year-old male driver. He was charged with stunt driving and his licence and vehicle were seized for seven days.

Then on Sunday shortly after 10 p.m. police followed a group of cars and motorcycles travelling westbound from Queenston Rd. The group stopped at the intersection of King St. E and Sherman Ave. N where a red Nissan 350Z and a blue BMW stopped side by side, revved their engines and sped off when the light turned green. They continued this for several intersections.

Police say after several turns and rapid accelerations by the Nissan driver they were able to pull the car over at Main St. and Gage Ave., however they were unable to safety stop the BMW.  A 26-year-old male driver from Hamilton was charged with stunt driving, his licence and vehicle were seized for seven days. Police have identified the driver of the BMW and expect charges to be laid.

A short time later, around 11:30 p.m. police watched a silver Dodge Journey squeal its tires as it left a parking lot at the corner of Queenston and Nash Rds. It was followed by a grey Mazda 3 which police say mounted a curb and cut off another vehicle leaving the lot. Police caught up to the drivers near Queenston Rd and Greenford Dr. where they saw both vehicles had damage. Police say through investigation they found the Mazda had struck the Journey from the rear causing it to hit a hydro pole.

The Mazda driver, a 23-year-old Hamilton man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle.
