There was quite a scare at Westmount Secondary School today.

At 10:18 am a recorded phone message threat was made that put the students and staff in jeopardy. Due to the nature of the threat, school staff immediately pulled Westmount’s fire alarm to evacuate the building.

Hamilton police guarded the area as investigators went inside to search the building. The school was evacuated during the police response and all staff and students were moved to a nearby recreation centre.

The HWDSB officials dismissed students for the remainder of the day and arrangements for students to return home safe were made.

Police haven’t confirmed the nature of the threat but many students believe it was about a bomb. Police continue to search Westmount School at this time to ensure there are no ongoing threats to public safety.

No arrests have been made.

You can call the Board Education Centre at 905-527-5092, if you would like to speak to a school official.

Parent/teacher interview for tonight have also been cancelled.
