Ten officials indicted over 2020 military shootdown of Ukrainian passenger plane

An Iranian prosecutor has announced indictments against 10 officials allegedly at fault for the 2020 military shootdown of a Ukrainian passenger plane.

The shootdown killed 176 people onboard the plane, including including 55 Canadian citizens, 30 permanent residents, and dozens of others bound for Canada.

Iran has been criticized internationally for releasing a final report into the shootdown of the flight that blamed human error, but named no one responsible for it.

Tehran’s military prosecutor avoided naming those responsible when he announced the indictments Tuesday.
