Temperature checks coming for all air travellers in Canada

First Published:

Canada is bringing in temperature checks for air travellers to keep COVID-19 from spreading as people start flying again.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the requirement will be phased in, starting with people arriving in Canada.

It will then expand to those leaving the country and then those flying within it.

Trudeau admits temperature checks are not a way to detect the virus in travellers but says it is an additional measure that can highlight symptoms.

Canada has rules against allowing people on planes who have obvious symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

But it has not been actively checking flyers for fevers, as many other countries do.
