Update:

Niagara Regional police say the investigation determined that there was no interaction with an unknown man as it was initially described to police.

Niagara police are looking to speak to a man who had a “brief interaction” with a young girl in St. Catharines.

Officers were called to a home in the area of Vale Ave. and Haig St. around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Police were told three girls, aged 8 to 9, were outside playing when one of them became briefly separated from her friends.

The young girl was approached by an unknown man and following a brief interaction, got scared and fled to safety. She was not physically injured during the incident.

The man was last seen on foot, heading northbound on Haig St.

“Detectives are attempting to identify the male and determine his intentions,” said Niagara police in a news release.

He is described as white, between 35 and 60 years old, with a medium build and short brown hair. Police say he was wearing black jeans and a black shirt or jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, ext. 9451.
