Stoney Creek home destroyed by early morning fire

First Published:

A home in Stoney Creek has suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to a kitchen fire in a house at 658 Highway 8 around 7:12 a.m.

The caller reported seeing heavy smoke and visible flames inside the two-and-a-half storey home.

All of the residents managed to make it out safely before firefighters arrived on scene.

Deputy Fire Chief John Verbeek said crews were still battling flames that spread into the walls and through the roof as of 9:15 a.m.

Fire officials say the home is roughly 90 years old.

Hamilton police have shutdown all lanes on Highway 8 from the area of Dewitt Rd.  to Jones Rd.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
