May the fourth be with you

This year people are paying tribute to actor Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in many of the films. He died on Tuesday at the age of 74. As well as Carrie Fisher, who played princess Leia. For local comic book stores, the celebrations happened alongside “Free comic book day”.

Generally the first weekend of May sees the release of marvel’s biggest blockbuster and comic book distributors have taken the opportunity to make the day an important one for fans. The day is meant to spread positivity in the community. It’s also a chance for fans to engage with the things they are most passionate about.

Free comic book day and may the fourth don’t always fall on the same day, but when they do it’s cause for a little extra celebration.
