An update now to a story we first told you about last night. Niagara Regional Police have laid charges against a man they say shot a gun in the direction of officers while barricaded in a home for four hours. Police say negotiators had to convince the man to walk out of the home.
Surveillance footage captured what appears to be 29 year old Michael Roosma coming out of this home on Pelham road near Spruceside last night. This after police say he was barricaded inside for hours with weapons.
The footage is dark because the media and officers were told to turn out their lights during tense negotiations. Police say they were called to the home for a disturbance. Neighbours say a couple lives in the home and their adult son came to visit last night. Neighbours say they heard yelling between the father and his adult son who was eventually arrested for hours before it escalated and police were called.
A portion of the road was closed. Neighbours told to go in their basements.
One neighbour says she heard gun shots, police say Roosma fired a gun twice from inside of the home, in the direction of police officers. Police officers gave the man directions as he was exiting the home and walking down the driveway, the man is heard yelling profanities at police. Neighbours saying nothing to this extent has ever happened on the street before.
Its unclear whether anyone else was in the home at the time of the incident. Luckily no one was hurt. Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Roosma has been charged with pointing a firearm, uttering death threats, possession of a weapon and 2 counts of discharging a firearm with intent. He was scheduled to appear at John Sopinka Court House today for a bail hearing.
