Marvel comics co-founder Stan Lee has died at the age of 95.

From local comic book shops to some of Hollywood’s elite paid tribute to the man who’s influence can be seen everywhere.

Stanley Martin Lieber was born in Manhattan to Romanian immigrants and got into the comic book industry at 19. Years later, he and Jack Kirby created Marvel comics in 1961 and introduced a collection of heroes that have become permanent fixtures in our lives.

A whole new generation now can’t get enough of Lee’s creations. The Marvel studio franchise has churned out 20 movies, all of which he cameo’d in, that have grossed more than $6 billion. The films have launched or in some cases revitalized the careers of Hollywood A-listers, many of whom paid tribute to the face of Marvel.
