St. Catharines arrest prompts SIU investigation

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was seriously injured in an altercation with Niagara Regional Police.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, officers were called to a home in the area of Manchester Ave. and Whitmore St. in St. Catharines Wednesday morning.

Officers located a 34-year-old man inside and there was some sort of interaction with police.

He was taken into custody and then taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.

Two investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
