Southern Ontario preparing for snowfall

The City of Hamilton braced for the first expected significant snowfall of the season by rounding up the salt truck fleets and road crews.

Hamilton has more than 300 staff, over a 100 snow plows and more than 300 pieces of equipment on stand-by for the snow storm.

Crews were gearing up in the Niagara region for this weekend’s storm with inspections the various roads, sidewalks and bus stops. Snow plows have been deployed across Niagara to begin salting roads ahead of the storm. The region said it’s staffed 24 -7 and will be monitoring the weather patterns throughout the weekend.

Environment Canada gave the province a head’s up that much of Southern Ontario could be blanketed with snow by Monday morning. It will be the first major snowfall of the season for the area with a grand total of 10 cm to 15 cm forecasted to fall starting Sunday afternoon and ending Monday morning during the commute to work.
