The 15 year old son of a Canadian diplomat has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a drug-related shootout in Florida, and he’ll be tried as an adult.

A grand jury in Miami indicted Marc Wabafiyebazu on first-degree felony murder charges earlier today. Marc, along with his older brother Jean, were involved in an alleged drug deal that went wrong. It all took place last month on March 30th. Detectives believe the two teens had a plan to rob the dealers, but that plan ended in gunfire inside an apartment building in Miami. Police say Marc was holding a handgun when he was arrested outside the building his brother had gone into, to allegedly steal drugs. The older brother and another teen, believed to be a dealer, died when gunfire rang out.

Marc appeared in juvenile court last Wednesday in Miami with attorney Curt Obront during a hearing. Marc is the son of Roxanne Dube, a long time Canadian diplomat who recently became Canada’s Consul General in Miami. Obrant says his client will plead not guilty to the first-degree murder charges.

19-year-old Anthony Rodriguez appeared in a Miami bond court April 1st on charges of felony murder and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He was injured in the shooting that resulted in the deaths of 17-year-old Jean Wabafiyebazu … and 17-year-old Joshua Wright. A judge set his bond at 150-thousand dollars and gave him house arrest while he awaits trial.

The Canadian government continues to work with Miami police detectives to investigate the incident. Marc, who is being held in juvenile detention, will now be moved to an adult jail to await trial.
