Hundreds are losing their jobs – thanks to the removal of slot machines from race tracks in Fort Erie, Windsor and Sarnia.
It’s part of a new strategy by Ontario’s Lottery and Gaming Commission to move away from border locations that have seen their business drop significantly over the last decade. At one time, Americans made up 85% of the gamblers at these locations, while today that number is just 15%.
As for job losses, 235 people will be out of work in Fort Erie, while 150 full time and 60 part time workers will be unemployed in Windsor and 90 full time and 50 part time employees are also losing their jobs in Sarnia.
