Three men are facing first degree murder charges after police say they shot and killed a teenager and wounded two others on the Six Nations reserve.
Ashton VanEvery was just 16-years old when police say he was murdered. At his highschool this afternoon, his classmates were struggling to cope with their friends violent death.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and our board supports are here to make sure our student and staff have the supports that they need.” Ann Myhal, principal Brantford Collegiate.
VanEvery died of gunshots wounds in hospital after being transported by air ambulance. Another man, who has not been identified is still in hospital with serious injuries, the other is expected to be okay.
The shooting happened at a residence on Chiefswood road, shortly after 1:00pm yesterday. Police are saying they believe the shooting was some sort of retaliation for an assault that happened the night before, but wouldn’t provide any further details. Unconfirmed reports say that a young man had been beaten with baseball bats and that his relatives went to confront his attackers when they were shot. .
24 year old Kenneth Paul Appleton, 19 year old, Dwight Walton and his father 56 year old Ervin Maracle, turned themselves into police later that night.
