Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Hamilton and much of southern Ontario ahead of snowfall beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing into Monday morning.
The weather agency says a total of 10 to 15 centimetres is expected with snow beginning over Southwestern Ontario and reaching Eastern Ontario by late afternoon.
It says the precipitation will fall primarily as snow, but may change over to rain early Monday morning near the shores of the Great Lakes.
Give yourself extra time for your Monday morning commute, the timing of this snowfall could make the drive into work messy.
The snowfall is a result of a Colorado low that will track towards the Great Lakes beginning, Sunday.
Environment Canada says it will continue monitoring the development of the snowfall and the expected amounts per region.
The City of Hamilton has its road crews out and they’re also monitoring conditions in and around the city. The city has more than 300 staff ready to go when the snow flies, over 100 snow plows to deploy and more than 300 additional pieces of snow equipment on standby.
The city’s salt storage facilities are full. On average the City of Hamilton uses 65,000 tonnes of salt each winter season.
Crews in the Niagara and Halton regions have also been monitoring conditions and say they’re also ready with their necessary snow clearing equipment.
