Significant damage caused to home following fire on Hamilton mountain

A multiple alarm fire at a home on East 21st street in Hamilton this afternoon has lead to over $500,000 in damages.

The Hamilton Fire Department tells CHCH News that the fire started around 12:30 p.m. on 19 East 21st street started to encroach on the neighbouring house. They say they were able to knock down the fire on the second without significant damage.

Fire says residents of both homes were able to evacuate before crews arrived and there were no injuries as a result.

Hamilton police closed off East 21st and East 22nd Streets

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Red Cross will be helping those who have been displaced.
