(Updated) As back to school approaches, a new study finds shopping for all those new supplies is getting more and more expensive.

The study for RetailMeNot.ca found that 78 per cent of Canadians believe back to school shopping is far too expensive. The survey indicates a lot of parents feel stressed spending money on clothes, school supplies and technology for their young ones.

Seven out of ten parents say staying on budget is the top priority.

Here are some shopping tips: ask the school teacher for a supply list to manage your budget; and shop early and take advantage of student discounts.

On average, parents spend about $200 per child on back to school shopping.
