First Published:

A Hamilton man is facing charges in connection with multiple suspicious fires.

Hamilton police say the first incident happened on New Year’s Eve at a business compound near Sherman Ave. and Princess St.

Emergency crews arrived on scene to find a large fire but managed to put out the blaze before it spread to neighbouring properties. Police say no one was injured.

The fire was deemed suspicious and damage was estimated at roughly $75,000.

A week later, Hamilton fire crews were called to a fire on Beechwood Ave.

Police say someone set fire to a shed on Jan. 7 and caused roughly $5,000 in damage.

On Jan. 22, first responders were dispatched to a suspicious fire at a vacant home on Paling Ave. The building sustained roughly $50,000 in damage.

James Peschke, 37, has been arrested in connection with all three fires. He faces two counts of arson – damage to property and one count of arson – disregard for human life.

Peschke has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Andrea Torrie at 905-546-2991 or Sgt. George Gallant at 905-540-5085.
