Search continues for fugitive after woman shot in Mississauga

First Published:

Peel Regional Police is searching for a man who is considered “armed and dangerous” after a woman was shot Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Cleghorn is wanted for attempted murder after he allegedly shot a woman in Mississauga.

The woman was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the area of Apple Blossom Circle after police were called to investigate a “dispute involving weapons.”

Police say Cleghorn was found a short time later in a nearby residential area. They say an altercation broke out when Cleghorn stole a police cruiser.

The Special Investigations Unit says a Peel officer shot at the man as he fled.

Investigators say the 31-year-old abandoned the cruiser a short distance away when he allegedly stole a white Hyundai Sante Fe SUV and fled.

Police believe Cleghorn may have been injured during the altercation and may seek medical treatment. He is described as six-foot-two and weighing 180 lbs.

“Michael Cleghorn should not be approached and should be considered armed and dangerous,” said Peel police in a news release.

In 2017, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Cleghorn on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of a man in Thunder Bay.

He is also wanted by Toronto police in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a child.
