The Black Friday frenzy was in full swing on both sides of the border. And in the past 24 hours, some bargain hunters have been shopping around the clock.

They crashed through the doors at stores across the U.S. Friday morning. And in some cities, the bargain hunt turned into a battle. In one store- there was a fight over a five dollar Barbie.

At the fashion outlets in Niagara Falls, New York, the mall was busy and shoppers more
civilized.

“We’re looking for some bargains. Looking for an outfit for a Christmas party.”

There were a lot more Americans in the mall today–

“I heard the deals weren’t as good this year as they usually are.”

Canadians had to look hard for deals.

“It’s not a big difference.”

Doesn’t appear to be as many Canadians as there usually is on a Black Friday at the New York malls.

They say traffic in the mall on Black Friday has been declining while internet shopping is up 14 per cent.

We asked these shoppers in Niagara Falls, Ontario if they were going over the border.

“No. On Black Friday? Not a chance.”

Some are saying the discounts aren’t deep enough.

“It’s like ‘buy one-get one 50% off’ when you can get that any day of the year, a lot of places.”

“I got a hot yoga mat for $40, normally $60”

Lea Donatelli and Holly Linkletter were at the Canada One Outlet Mall in Niagara Falls and not even considering shopping stateside: “It’s not worth it. Can’t be bothered.”

Canada One’s been doing Black Friday promotions for more than a decade now.

Marjorie Ruddy, Canada One Factory Outlets: “Every year it gets better. So many more of our retailers have jumped on board with amazing deals, similar to what you would see on Boxing Day.”

That’s how Black Friday in Canada appears to be evolving. Sales without the official holiday
