Thousands gathered to say goodbye to a man who was both controversial and larger than life. The funeral for former Toronto mayor Rob Ford took place in Toronto today.

In his last public appearance, the man who called himself the peoples mayor, has been given a new title by his daughter Stephanie.
“I know my dad is in a better place now and he’s the mayor of heaven now.”

Fords wife Renata sat crushed, comforted by their son Dougie as a who’s who of politics gathered to say goodbye to the 46 year old. Brother Doug thanked everyone from political enemies to allies for their compassion in helping remember a man who’s ambition was even larger than his office.

The day began with a procession from Toronto’s City Hall to St. James Cathedral. Doug and family marched behind the hurse, as they were joined by thousands who chanted, “best mayor ever, best mayor ever.”

For those members of the public who would still like the chance to celebrate the life of Ford, there is a gathering at the Toronto Congress Centre for any members of Ford nation who would like to attend.
