It was a terrifying day in Saudi Arabia’s city of Mecca as Muslims get ready for the annual Hajj later this month. A crane collapsed during a rainstorm crashing onto the grand mosque and killing at least 87 people and injuring 201. Saudi Arabia’s civil defense authority continues to monitor the death toll.

The accident happened as pilgrims were streaming into Islam’s holiest city for the annual Hajj pilgrimage later this month. the crane collapse was captured on amateur video and posted on twitter. The audio records a loud boom and yelling in the background.

A photo shows the aftermath inside the mosque. Search and rescue efforts are underway and Saudi Arabia’s civil defense authority continues to monitor the death toll. The crane collapse happened during a violent rainstorm today, and strong winds are being blamed for its fall.
