Residential fire in St. Catharines hospitalizes 2 people

An early morning fire at a St. Catharines residence has hospitalized two people.

The fire broke out around 2:45 a.m. Friday and officials say that the home on Linfield Drive had four occupants inside.

Two of them were “able to remove themselves quickly,” according to local paramedics but the other two occupants, a man and a woman, had to be taken to hospital.

Officials describe one of the victim’s injuries as “extensive second-degree burns and smoke inhalation.” However, Niagara police say that both patients are in non-life-threatening condition.

At this time, the scene remains under investigation and the Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and no official damage estimate has been released by fire investigators.
