Rabbi Bernard Baskin remembered at funeral in Hamilton

A funeral service held on Sunday celebrated the life of a revered spiritual leader in Hamilton, Rabbi Bernard Baskin.

Baskin passed away in his Toronto home last Wednesday, less than two months away from his 103rd birthday.

Family and followers bid farewell inside Anshe Sholom Temple with Rabbi Jordan Cohen leading the funeral service.

Cohen says Baskin was an inspiration among the Jewish and general community.

Beginning in 1949, Baskin served as the rabbi of Temple Anshe Sholom in Westdale for 40 years. He remained there from 1989 to 2017 as Rabbi Emeritus.

Survived by his three children and 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Baskin was American born and a son of an Orthodox Rabbi,

Baskin followed his fathers footsteps and moved to Hamilton with his wife Marjorie in 1949, becoming the leader of Anshe Sholom Temple and trailblazing its current location in Westdale.
