Back-to-work legislation is expected to pass at Queen’s Park today to prevent further strikes by public secondary school teachers from affecting this school year in Peel, Durham and Sudbury.
The teachers have already returned to work since the Ontario Labour Relations Board ruled on Tuesday that the strikes in the three areas were illegal.
But the Labour Board only ordered a two-week moratorium on strike action, saying they could resume if the unions cleansed their strike material of information related to provincial bargaining that affects all public school boards.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation promised yesterday to resume the strikes on June 10th, disrupting the end of the school year for students who have had to deal with several lost weeks of school already.
The Wynne government’s back-to-work legislation will prevent that by banning strikes in Peel, Durham and Sudbury until the end of June.
