The Ontario government is making an additional $100 million available to fight forest fires in the province.
The new funds were announced Wednesday by the PC government.
This is on top of about $70 million in base funding allocated to fight the fires.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, there are currently 116 active fires in the province.
73 of those are in the northwest region and 43 are in the north east.
The largest fire in the northeast, known as “North Bay 72” is no longer out of control, but the “Parry Sound 33” blaze still is.
There are almost 1,000 Ontario firefighters battling the blazes.
They are getting help from firefighters and support staff from other provinces, the U.S. and Mexico.
